On July 23,2020, at 12:41 China Standard Time, China successfully launched the Tianwen-1 from the Wenchang Launch Site in Hainan. The Martian Surface Component Detector and the Mars Mineralogy Spectrometer, which were developed by the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, were launched into space with the Tianwen-1. The mission will carry out scientific exploration of the elements and mineral composition of the Martian surface in the two phases of the landing patrol and the Mars orbit.

The Martian Surface Component Detector is one of the main payloads on the rover, combining active Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy with passive shortwave infrared spectroscopy, high-precision scientific exploration of elements, minerals and rocks on the surface of the Mars landing zone will be carried out. The Mars Mineralogy Spectrometer will provide scientific data for the mission of investigating and analyzing the composition of the Martian surface materials by breaking through the key technologies such as infrared background suppression, highly efficient free-form surface-grating spectrometric component and on-board combination calibration.

The "tianwen-1" is expected to become a new milestone in the field of deep space exploration in China.
