Foreign professor lecturing
The program for Graduate studies in Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences
Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics (SITP), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), was established in October, 1958. SITP engages in the fundamental and applied research in infrared physics and optoelectronics. SITP’s mission also covers engineering technology and high-tech industry. SITP is among the first batches of knowledge innovation units in the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Currently, there are 750 employees including 500 researchers and technical staff members; among the 500 researchers, 200 aresenior professional and technical experts with 6 Academicians of Chinese Academy of Sciences and 2 Academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering.

SITP’s major research activities focus on infrared physics, optoelectronic materials, new devices, and new technologies. The main emphasis is put on aerospace technology, infrared image processing, signal processing, infrared focal plane, infrared optoelectronic devices, optical thin films, micro-cryogenics, medical imaging, and remote information sensing. Laboratories are set up to implement these technologies, including the National Laboratory for Infrared Physics, the National Key Laboratory for Sensors (the infrared part), and the innovation laboratory for infrared imaging materials and devices. SITP is the majority stock holder of Shanghai DeFu Opto-electronic Technology Co., Ltd, which invested in over 22 companies whose fields lie in research & development, manufacturing, and sales of sensors and opto-communication devices. The company’s revenue has achieved 500 million RMB, with yearly profit of 70 million RMB.
The first Meeting of SITP Graduated Student Association
Since SITP was built, she has achieved over 800 important research achievements, including over 40 state-level achievements, 200 the provincial and ministerial level achievements, and 200 Chinese patents. SITP has also collaborated with research institutes in countries like the United States, Japan, Great Britain, and France. The IR Professional Committee of the Chinese Optical Society, the Remote Sensing Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Space Research, the Remote Sensing Professional Committee of the Chinese Society of Astronautics, and Shanghai IR and Remote Sensing Committee are affiliated with our institute. Delegated by the Committee of the Chinese Optical Society, SITP publishes two technical magazines, Journal of Infrared and Millimeter Waves and Infrared.
Graduate Students Dormitory
SITP, one of the major PhD graduate education bases of Chinese Academy of Sciences, offers programs for graduate studies in the fields of infrared and optoelectronic technologies. The Ph.D degrees are offered in two level subjects: one first-level subject in electronic science and technology and four second-level subjects in physical electronics, circuits and systems, microelectronics and solid state electronics, electromagnetic and microwaves technology. Master degrees are offered in physical electronics, circuits and systems, microelectronics and Solid State Electronics, electromagnetic and microwaves technology, signal processing, optical engineering, refrigeration and cryogenic engineering, condensed matter physics, optics, photogrammetry, and remote sensing. SITP is also the post-doctoral research station in the subject of electronic science and technology. Currently, SITP has over 400 graduate students, including over 200 PhD students.
