Prof. Dr. Junhao Chu, Member of Chinese Academy of Sciences(2005-); Director of Shanghai Center for Photovoltaics(2008-); Chief Editor of the (1999-); Professor (1992-) of National Laboratory for Infrared Physics, Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Deputy to the National People’s Congress(2003-).
He graduated from Shanghai Normal University, in 1966, and got M.S. (1981) and Ph.D.(1984) from Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 1986.2 to 1988.10 he was Humboldt Fellow at Technical University of Munich, Germany. Since 1992 he has been full professor of SITP. From 1993 to 2003 he was Director of National Laboratory for Infrared Physics.
He has made a systematically investigation on the opto-electronics of narrow gap semiconductors and low dimensional system of semiconductors as well as ferroelectric thin films in both experimental and theoretical aspects. The related opto-electronic devices have been also investigated. In the areas some 330 papers, 3 book chapters,20 patents on narrow gap semiconductors, ferroelectric thin films, optoelectronics, semiconductor device physics and photovotailcs have been published, and more than 50 conference presentations including some 30 invited talks have been presented. He published monographs: “Physics of Narrow gap semiconductors” by science pres in China in 2005, and “Physics and properties of Narrow gap semiconductors” by Springer in 2007.
The research project of “The study of optical transition and infrared focal plane array for HgCdTe thin films ” acquired the second class Awards of Natural Science in China (2005). He is also obtained the third class Awards of National Natural Science in China (1993) and the fourth class Awards of National Natural Science in China (1987). The National Ministry of Science and Technology commended him as an excellent scientist in the Major State Basic Research Project in 2004. He also got Professional Excellence Award for the State Key Laboratory Program in the 20 years celebration meeting in 2004. In 2005 he was elected as member of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
Prof . Junhao Chu had been director of National Laboratory for Infrared Physics from 1993 to 2003. During the period the Laboratory ranks excellent laboratory in the national evaluation for two times in 1997 and 2002, respectively. He was the Chairmen of the International Conference on Thin Film Physics and Applications in 2000, 2004 and 2007, and program member or advisory member for international conference for several times. He has trained some 50 Ph.D students, among them 33 persons have received their doctor degrees. Two Doctors got hundred-excellent doctor thesis awards in the country. He is a Deputy to the National People’s Congress (10th)(2003.3-2008.3) and Deputy to the National People’s Congress (11st)(2008.3-2013.3)
