Main Work and Achievements :
GONG Huixing, an expert in space remote sensing, male, born in July 1940, native of Shanghai. Graduated from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) in 1963 and had a postgraduate diploma at the Institute of Automation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in 1967. Now, professor and chief engineer of the Shanghai Institute of Technical Physics, CAS.
He was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1995. He has been engaged in the research on space optoelectronic remote sensing technology for a long time and is one of the main pioneers in this field of our country. His early research achievement--the static infrared horizon sensor was successfully used for attitude sensing of the geostationary spin-stabilized satellite of our country. He took the lead in carrying out the research on spaceborne infrared remote sensors and their radiation calibration in China and developed the first spaceborne infrared remote sensor of our country--the very high resolution scanning radiometer for FY-1 meteorological satellite. He completed the development of the apparatus for growing protein crystal in space and successfully led the first crystal growth test under the microgravity condition in space of our country. In early 1990’s, he held the post of chief designer of the application systems for Shenzhou spaceships. After 2001, he held the post of chief expert in the field of space remote sensing of National 863 high-tech Program and drove the space science experiments and application research work including optical and microwave remote sensing, space exploration and space microgravity research in China. He is a technical expert who has obtained remarkable achievements in both space remote sensing and space science experiment in our country and won the first class awards for both National and CAS science and technology progress for many times. At present, he also holds the posts of academician of International Eurasian Academy of Sciences (IEAS) , dean of the School of Information Technology of USTC, honorary dean of the School of Electronics and Information Engineering of Tongji University and member of the Standing Committee of the Eleventh Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.
